How We Designed the Kenpachi Hoodie — Bleach Merch Built for one of the Strongest Captain
Share
After Aizen, the next hoodie was personal. Kenpachi Zaraki is my dad's favorite character, and after feeling confident coming off the Aizen hoodie, I wanted to do something for him. I wanted to represent his favorite character the right way — and that's exactly what this hoodie is.
Why Kenpachi
There's something about Kenpachi that just hits different. His rough design, his battle hungry energy, the way he walks into every fight looking for the hardest opponent he can find. He doesn't need a plan. He doesn't need a strategy. He just shows up. That character deserved a hoodie that felt exactly like that.
The Vision
From the colorway to the feel to the quality, I wanted everything about this hoodie to give a Kenpachi vibe. Not just a hoodie with his name on it — something that actually felt like him when you put it on.
Why the Zanpakuto on the Chest
Going forward, every captain in the Gotei 13 collection will have their zanpakuto on the chest. A sword is such a core part of a captain's identity that it felt wrong to leave it out. The only reason Aizen didn't have one is because the Hogyoku demanded that spot — and honestly Aizen's sword is pretty bland compared to his character. Kenpachi's sword though? It belongs front and center.
The Gold Bells and Division 11 Kanji
The gold bells on the sleeve are a direct nod to the bells Kenpachi used to wear in his hair — one of the most recognizable details about his character. I actually sampled the bells around the hood first, but it didn't feel right. Moving them to the sleeve cuff was the right call.
The Division 11 kanji on the back is the same design found on his captain's haori. Just like the Aizen hoodie, repping your division matters — every captain hoodie in this collection will carry that.
The Distressed Frayed Look
Kenpachi's captain haori is cut and frayed — he doesn't wear it properly, he just throws it on. That roughness is part of who he is. The distressed frayed hood and cuffs were my way of bringing that into the hoodie. It's not a flaw, it's intentional. It's Kenpachi.
The Sampling Process
This one was a little harder than Aizen. I was working on a time crunch right before Chinese New Year, which added pressure to the whole process. My sample even has a small stain I couldn't get out — but it wasn't worth holding up production over. Sometimes you work with what you have and keep moving.
Why Charcoal
I just get a deep gray feeling from Kenpachi. I can't fully explain it — it just fits him. I also didn't want to keep doing black and white for every hoodie. The Gotei 13 collection should have range, different colors for different captains, each one feeling distinct. Charcoal was the right call for him.
Made for My Dad
Aizen is one of my favorite captains. But Kenpachi was made for my dad. There's something that feels right about building a business and being able to say — this one's for him. I hope every Kenpachi fan who wears this feels that same energy. Proud, comfortable, and repping their favorite captain without saying a word.
